“This one meant everything”
No need to even write an intro
paragraph to hype this game up… you
know the story, the players, and
what this game means already so
let’s get right to it.
Mike Green’s
two 3-pointers put the Trojans on
the right path. Mike Schaff
got the Hill going with six first
quarter points. With a minute left
in the first quarter Draymond
“Day-Day” Green drop stepped and
threw down a powerful slam over a
couple Hillites. A quick steal
resulted in one of M.Green’s
3-pointers; the steal was one of
five straight Jack turnovers to end
the first quarter as the High led
19-14.
The Hill managed to climb back and
cut the lead to one but then Coach
Dawkins subbed in
Raymond Stepney,
who provided big minutes. Saginaw
started to feed Day-Day on the
block. Day-Day banged in back to
back “and 1’s” to force Coach McMath
to call a time-out. After the time
out M. Green added another 3-pointer
to end the half. The halftime score
42-26.
To start the second half Latreze
Mushatt came out and tried to
get his Jacks back in the game.
Mushatt scored 6 straight points.
Day-Day countered back with a
performance that took over the third
quarter. With 2:02 left in the
third quarter Day-Day went up strong
and got a la-up to fall while being
fouled to push the Trojan lead to 19
points.
The Jacks tried to respond with a
pair of Omari Humes “and 1’s”
to cut the lead to 14. One of the
“and 1s” came courtesy of a
Maurice “Pookie” Jones steal and
assist.
The fourth quarter belonged to
Day-Day and his Trojan family and
the route was on as the High lead
got as high as 27 points. To give
the Jacks credit they never threw
the towel in and the final score
read 81-66.
BREAKDOWN
High-
the Trojans now advance to the semis
where they will face Flushing.
Saginaw might have just passed their
hardest test as they will now role
to
“Back to Back State Titles”.
Game Ball-
Day-Day #32
the 6-7 forward totally dominated
this game. He went to the block and
posted up while grabbing every
rebound. He showed his diversity by
knocking down 3-pointers and drawing
charges. Green finished with 29
points and 18 rebounds. To sum up
his performance- “Mr. Basketball”
Mike Green, #20 High-
for some reason the rim seems to get
bigger when Green plays the Hill in
the districts. The junior guard
knocked down 3’s from everywhere on
his way to a 19 point performance.
With all the college coaches at the
game- Green’s phone is sure to ring.
Raymond Stepney, #34 High-
Stpney was the unsung hero of the
night. With C. Washington in early
foul trouble, the 6-3 wing provided
big minutes off the bench. He
didn’t fill up the stat sheet but he
did all those little things you need
to win. Stpney scored 14 points.
Treze Mushatt, #4 Hill-
the senior wing did everything he
possibly could to carry his Jacks.
He finished the night with 19 points
to go with all the little things.
He did everything he possibly could
but it just wasn’t enough on this
particular night.
Tyrie Wooten, #12 Hill-
the senior finished with 15 points
and he hit some big shots late in
the game. He played hard all night
and never game up.
