Boy's Basketball:  State Finals Preview

CLASS A

East Lansing (18-8) vs Saginaw (25-1) Saginaw took there scare from Clarkston but East Lansing has been pulling upsets through out districts and regionals.  The Trojans will come in focused and will take care of business.

Detroit Pershing (21-4) vs Romulus (22-3) this will go down as a classic!  Romulus already topped Pershing earlier in the year but I think Pershing is much improved, especially with the emergence of Derrick Nix.

Championship Pick: Saginaw over Pershing Pershing will keep in close for three quarters than Saginaw’s depth will wear out the Doughboys.

Player To Watch: Daniel West, Saginaw his ability to take care of the ball will be key for the Trojans.  He is also showing off his smooth stroke.

CLASS B

Menominee (21-3) vs Lansing Catholic (21-4) our up-north football powerhouse is being greedy and they not want a name in basketball too.  Well they’ll get it because they will play in the State Championship game.

Flint Powers (19-7) vs Forest Hills Northern (24-2) Powers is playing some good basketball right now but will the Breslin rims be friendly to them?  Powers four guard rotation of Ty Moreland, Shane Moreland, Patrick Lucas-Perry, and DeMarcos Sanders will carry them to the finals.

Championship Pick: Powers over Menominee Menominee won’t have an answer for Powers’ game plan to spread the floor with so many shooters.

Player To Watch: Shane Moreland, Powers Shane is making believers out of doubters.  He has raised his game to the next level.   Just sit back and enjoy the show!

CLASS C

A.A. Gabriel Richard (21-5) vs K-Zoo Christian (24-1) K-Zoo Christian has a nice blend of size and guard play.  They are very fundamental and they know how to take care of the ball.

Negaunee (25-0) vs Flint Beecher (18-7) Beecher will use their press to force turnovers and Negaunee hasn’t seen overall team speed and depth like Beecher will throw at them.

Championship Pick: Beecher over K-Zoo Christian I picked Beecher when this thing started so why would I change my mind now.  Coach Williams has done a terrific job of developing his young men.

Player To Watch: Janero Walker, Beecher the junior floor general will show you how a point guard is suppose to play.  He doesn’t put up many points but he leads and plays just as hard as anyone in the state.

CLASS D

Muskegon Western MI Christian (22-3) vs Cedarville (25-0) them boys from Muskegon will play hard and keep it close but they will wander off as they won’t be able to match Cedarville long ball for long ball.

Lawrence (23-1) vs Detroit City (20-4) City has terrific guard play, they are small but lightning quick.  Lawrence won’t know what hit them.

Championship Pick: Cedarville over Detroit City Cedarville will force Detroit to pull of the press when they keep finding gaps that will turn into 3-pointers.

Player To Watch: C.J. Paquin, Cedarville this kid lacks respect because he plays up north, but he will show you that it doesn’t matter where he’s from- he can flat out play!
