“Jacks run past Vikings”

The Lady Jacks didn’t waste anytime schooling the junior led Lady Vikings.  Arthur Hill threw on the full court press and it forced turnover after turnover that led into uncontested baskets.  Arthur Hill led from the very tip and never looked back.

Kiah Douglas treated the game like a track meet as she hustled up and down the floor and Northern couldn’t keep pace.  Douglas sparked a 9-2 run to end the first quarter and Arthur Hill led 17-9 after one.

The Lady Jacks used an 8-0 run, and a 14-0 run, to build a 20 point lead before the half.  The Jacks dominated every aspect of the game; when Northern managed to break the press they still had to deal with 6-3 Juanita Cochran in the paint.  Cochran dominated and never let Northern get inside for an easy bucket.  Arthur Hill’s lead at halftime was 35-16.

In the second half Northern just went through the motions while Arthur Hill played with the same aggression as they did in the first half.  The Hill’s lead got up to 35 points after three quarters and the final score read 76-31.

BREAKDOWN

Game Ball- Juanita Cochran #44 the 6-3 center roamed the paint forcing Northern to have to settle for jump shots.  She also controlled the boards and that allowed her guards to release down court for fast break baskets.  Cochran contributed 13 points and 18 rebounds.

Hill- the difference in this game was Arthur Hill’s ability to push the ball and not let Northern get back in transition defense.  Northern was never able to catch their breath and the Jacks just wore them down.  Arthur Hill is playing some good ball right now because you’re not suppose to go to Flint for a regional game and walk out with a 40 point win.

Northern- it was the wrong night for the Lady Vikings to have a poor shooting performance but they have a lot to look forward to.  Northern will return all five starters along with the first two subs off the bench.  They should be the favorite to win the S.V.L. going into next year.

Kiah Douglas, #3 Hill- Murphy and Lindsey get the most of the credit, but Douglas has become a very important part of this Lady Jack team.  She has dynamite speed and she’s the first one down the floor 90% of the time.  Douglas had a game high 16 points.

Chaniese Turner, #20 Northern- just couldn’t get anything to fall against the scrappy Lumberjacks.  She spent most of her energy staying with B. Murphy that she couldn’t put much focus on offense.  She still however led Northern with 9 points.

Ariel Vincent, #32 Northern- the junior wing forward helped bring the ball up against the press and she handled it well.  Vincent also spent time banging around with the much taller Cochran.  She showed her mobility and versatility tonight.
